Welcome to TCM Basics.com!

Welcome to this traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture electronic database jointly maintained by Wyith Institute of Technology and Wyith Incorporated. This Web site was previously known as the "Wyith TCM Pages" and was first published in January 1995 as a special section under Wyith.com, previously hosted at www.wyith.com/topics/tcm. We are grateful to have these pages now republished under this new Web site called www.TCMBasics.com, operated by Wyith's B2C e-commerce division, Wyith Ltd. With this new Web site, we will start offering services for practitioners and TCM products and will also include information not only on TCM but also on ancient historical ideas and thinkings on Chinese metaphysics and other related topics that are crucial or helpful to the understanding of traditional Chinese medical knowledge. We hope to make this Web site not only informative, but also interesting.

The word-of-mouth, since 1995

Since the launch of the "Wyith TCM Pages" in 1995, our work has been highly recommended as one of the most comprehensive sources of information for traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. The Journal of Chinese Medicine (United Kingdom) commented in its 1997 September issue, "Although this site is maintained by people who are not practitioners of Chinese Medicine, it's a very good and comprehensive site on all topics of Chinese Medicine. It contains extensive descriptions of the fundamental theories, but also some articles on antineoplastic herbal medicines and the immune system. Several beautiful colour illustrations are included. Quality: Very good site, especially for patients of Chinese Medicine written by Wyith R. Cheng & Associates."

The "Wyith TCM Pages" is also listed by a number of academic institutions and journals as one of the preferred sources or references of TCM information, including The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Hong Kong Bioinformatics Centre, Dartmouth College's Drug Information Resources for Clinicians, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Research Centre for Modern Chinese Medicine (RCMCM), About.com's "Herbs for Health", US Pharmacist Monthly Journal, Natural Choice Chiropractic Clinic and DrugNetHK.

What is traditional chinese medicine

With over 3000 years of experience, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has remain one of the many fascinating, though not too convincing for the modern world, and enough interesting topics in Chinese culture. TCM appeared in the ancient China as far as in the Yellow Emperor's Canon of Medicine (compiled in about 475 to 221 B.C.) - believed to be the earliest medical monograph of China.

TCMBasics.com features some of the commonly-used herbal medicines which are verified in clinical reports and experimental research to be effective for the general diseases. We also present you with the basic tradition Chinese medicine theories in the pages here linked.

Color illustrations are provided for many of the herbs, so that browsers can visually identify the herbal medicines, differentiate the genuine from the false, and avoid the confusions arising from the nomenclature variations of herbal medicines. Brief descriptions are provided for each medicine.

TCM also as traditional chinese metaphysics

A good note from Mr. Douglas Hoff, "The systems of TCM using the concepts of elements and meridians are completely immersed in the Asian cosmology which takes shape through the religions. Recently Western medicine has found the meridian/brain mechanism that provides the pain block from the message that the needle or burning cone of herbs gives to the point of stimulus. Japanese shiatsu adds the benefit of massage to the meridian stimulation." This is also why at TCMBasics.com, you will find not only traditional Chinese medicine, but also traditional Chinese metaphysics.
